There is one film prop that is often left out or overlooked by science fiction film enthusiasts when compiling lists of favorite sci-fi vehicles, space ships and or larger set pieces.
This prop featured a very intelligent and compelling design and played a major role in a film that left an indelible and unforgettable impression to many viewers in the late 1960s and beyond. It is the Martian spaceship from the 1967 Hammer Film, “Quatermass and the Pit”, or released in the US as “Five Million Years to Earth.” This interesting prop seemingly disappeared shortly after the film was produced, and instead of being saved for any future use, it was more than likely destroyed and tossed into a dumpster, which was much cheaper than paying for warehouse space for these large props.
